Now taking commissions for summer 2027 • Four build slots remain

The first warm evening of the year is always worth the wait

The twelve things we check every April before the cover comes off, and the two you can do yourself.

Every pool we build comes with five years of aftercare, and the spring opening is the visit everyone looks forward to. Over a morning, two of our team bring the pool back to life after the winter. This is what they do.

The cover and the water

First we clear the leaves and rainwater from the top of the cover, then open it and check the slats or fabric, the motor and the end stops. We top up the water to the middle of the skimmer, brush the walls and floor, and vacuum out anything that found its way in over the winter.

The plant room

Next we restart the pump and check it primes cleanly, backwash the filter, fit a new UV lamp and clean the quartz sleeve. We restart the heat pump and check its pressures, test the dosing system and calibrate the probes. Finally we test the water and balance it, and set the heating to come up slowly over a few days.

The two you can do yourself

Clear the leaves off the cover through March, so they don’t end up in the water when it opens. And walk round the pool edge looking for any loose or cracked coping after the frosts. Tell us about either and we will bring what we need on the day.

“The water is usually warm enough to swim within a week of opening.”
